Noted Energy Projects and Markets Team Joins Troutman Sanders in NYC and DC
NEW YORK - March 20, 2017 – Troutman Sanders LLP announced today that partners Stuart Caplan and Andrew Schifrin, along with of counsel Jessica Lynch, have joined the firm’s Energy and Projects practice in the New York and Washington, D.C. offices. They previously practiced at Dentons.
The team advises energy companies and financial institutions in transactions and regulatory proceedings involving electric and natural gas markets, project development and finance and M&A. Caplan is known for his deep knowledge of U.S. energy markets and his strong negotiation skills. Along with Lynch, Caplan has navigated Federal Energy Regulatory Commission cases involving transmission, cost allocation and electric capacity market participation. They both handle complex energy trading, compliance and investigation work.
Schifrin is a leading project development lawyer and commercial problem-solver in infrastructure and energy-related projects. He serves as lead development counsel for many natural gas-fired and renewable power projects, negotiating, restructuring and litigating key project contracts associated with power generation and infrastructure facilities.
“We expect to see a rise in energy and infrastructure projects across the U.S. under the new administration. Stuart, Andy and Jessica thoroughly understand this market, enabling us to expand our scope of work for clients,” said Kevin Greene, Chair of the firm’s Energy and Regulatory Department. “This is especially true as states work toward adding renewable energy and natural gas-fired generation to the grid.”
“This is the ideal team to diversify our practice,” said David Dantzler, office managing partner of Troutman Sanders’ New York office. “The addition of these three signifies another important step toward the firm's planned growth of our project development and finance practice.”
“We now have a team with a deep bench that knows every facet of the U.S. energy industry, from the largest regulated utilities to the new energy market entrants. We are excited about the expansive energy platform we can deploy to help our clients succeed amidst a volatile regulatory environment,” said Caplan.
“Troutman Sanders has a track record of success and a strong, qualified team of lawyers. There are outstanding synergies that will allow us to support clients and build upon our core practices,” said Schifrin.
Caplan has his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and his J.D. from American University Washington College of Law. Schifrin received his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and his J.D. from New York University School of Law. Lynch holds her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh Law School.
