Utility Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity is a growing area of concern for the electric utility industry. In addition to mandatory and enforceable reliability standards, including critical infrastructure protection rules, Congress and the Administration are seeking to impose additional requirements on companies in this sector. Through our direct engagement with Congress and the Administration, Troutman Sanders is well positioned to influence cybersecurity measures before they are issued or enacted.

We are currently engaged in a range of issues, including the implementation of President Barack Obama’s cybersecurity executive order and development of cybersecurity legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate. With respect to cybersecurity legislation, we have lobbied on provisions involving information sharing, emergency authority and liability protections.

Given our substantive experience and knowledge, we can effectively represent clients on the various issues that may arise during the development of cybersecurity legislation and the implementation of U.S. agency cybersecurity measures.

Representative Experience
