Troutman Sanders' pro bono efforts lauded

Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Daily Report
October 30, 2009

Troutman Sanders and its attorneys’ pro bono efforts garnered a multitude of press in October, which is being celebrated as Pro Bono month across the U.S.

Atlanta partner Jeff Nix was featured in an October 19 Atlanta Journal-Constitution article about his involvement with the Breast Cancer Legal Project, which helps low-income breast cancer patients handle a variety of legal issues ranging from fighting evictions to getting public benefits, including Medicaid.

“Cancer is a terrible disease,” said Nix. “Usually what we try to do is relieve stress from their lives so they can focus on fighting the disease.”

The firm also was mentioned in an October 26 Daily Report article about the Atlanta Bar and Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation (ALVF) presenting their annual pro bono awards to individuals, committees and law firms at their upcoming 2009 Celebrating Service Luncheon and Pro Bono fair to be held October 30 at the Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center.

Troutman Sanders will receive the S. Phillip Heiner Award, which is presented annually to a firm that demonstrates extraordinary commitment to pro bono work. The firm was sited for its efforts in the Saturday Lawyers program and the foundation’s eviction defense program. Managing attorney of the AVLF, Tamara S. Caldas, stated that the firm “has a good record not just for outcomes, but also collecting judgments for clients.”
