Troutman Sanders LLP Earns Top Marks in 2012 Corporate Equality Index

Law firm scores 100 in Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Tenth Annual Index
January 23, 2012

ATLANTA – Troutman Sanders LLP is proud to announce that, for a fourth consecutive year, it has earned the top rating of 100 percent in the 2012 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

The firm joins the ranks of 190 other major U.S. businesses, which got top marks for their treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) employees and consumers.

“This year’s CEI tells a powerful story of American businesses willing to meet that higher bar,” said Joe Solmonese, president of the Human rights Campaign Foundation. “A remarkable 190 businesses succeeded in scoring 100 percent. This rating reflects equal health care coverage for all LGBT employees and their families, including full parity for domestic partner benefits not only in basic medical coverage, but in dependent care, retirement and other benefits that affect families’ financial and medical well-being.”

The CEI rates companies on 40 specific policies and practices, 32 of which are new or more demanding this year. To achieve a perfect score and the distinction of “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality,” companies are required to have fully inclusive equal employment opportunity policies, provide equal employment benefits, demonstrate organizational LGBT competency, evidence their commitment to equality publicly and exercise responsible citizenship.

A total of 850 businesses were rated in the 2012 CEI, including the entire Fortune 500. Two-hundred seventy-seven Fortune 500 companies submitted surveys voluntarily; the remaining 214 were rated based upon data available to the public. In addition, 65 Fortune 1000 companies, 134 law firms and 160 other companies voluntarily participated in the 2012 CEI.
