Troutman Sanders Launches Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Team and CFPB Report Blog

May 25, 2011

ATLANTA – Troutman Sanders LLP is pleased to announce the creation of  its Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Team, which will track, monitor and advise clients regarding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFBP),  a newly established federal entity created by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act in 2010.

The new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Team was created in direct response to the needs of Troutman Sanders’ clients. This team will allow the firm the opportunity to monitor pertinent issues happening within the CFBP and advise its clients on how those issues will directly affect them.

The firm’s strengths in the areas of financial institutions, financial services litigation, consumer credit, consumer protection, multi-state Attorneys General investigations and compliance allows its multi-discipline, cross-office team to examine how the activities of the stand-alone, independent federal agency will affect the firm’s existing and potential clients.

The team consists of attorneys David Anthony (RIC), Rori Cassirer (NY), Kevin  Fitzgerald (DC), Bill Hurd (RIC), Karen Lederer (NY), Jarrod Loadholt (ATL), Jake Lutz (RIC), John Lynch (VB), Jesse Martin (DC), Mark Nagle (DC), Fred Palmore (RIC), Steve Riddell (ALT), Ashley Taylor (RIC), Alan Wingfield (RIC), Seth Winter (RIC) and Mary Zinsner (TYS).

Already up and running, Troutman Sanders new team hosts a blog where it regularly posts information about the CFPB relevant to its clients and affected industries.

The federal government’s CFPB will assume oversight and regulatory authority on July 21, 2011. It will regulate consumer financial products and services, including having primary rulemaking authority over eighteen federal statutes and shared enforcement authority with existing federal agencies and state Attorneys General that have specific enforcement authority under Dodd-Frank.
