Troutman Sanders Expands in Southern California; Orange County Office Adds Team of Four Attorneys

June 17, 2010

IRVINE, CALIF. - Troutman Sanders LLP is pleased to announce the addition of a team of real estate finance and business litigation attorneys in its Orange County office, bolstering the law firm’s presence in Southern California.

Joining the firm are partners Martin W. Taylor, Dan E. Chambers and Jennifer Irrgang Bojorquez, and associate Meghan Sherrill. The team also brings with it a contract attorney, two paralegals and two secretaries.

The addition will boost the number of attorneys Troutman Sanders’ has in Orange County from 19 to 23.

“By adding a complete transactional practice in Orange County, we have fulfilled a strategic objective we set last year when we merged with Ross, Dixon & Bell, LLP,” said Robert W. Webb Jr., chairman and managing partner of Troutman Sanders.

The two firms merged in January 2009, uniting Troutman Sanders’ multi-faceted corporate, finance, litigation, real estate and public policy practices with Ross, Dixon & Bell’s exceptional insurance, professional liability and commercial litigation practices. The merger also gave Troutman Sanders offices in Orange County and San Diego for the first time.

Earlier this year, Troutman Sanders opened an office in Portland, Ore., with the addition of three partners.

“These new additions are the next step in the firm’s expansion and diversification on the West Coast,” said Robert M. Pozin, managing partner of the Orange County office. “We look forward to continued growth here in the coming years.”

The team's practice complements Troutman Sanders' existing real estate finance and related practice teams in its Atlanta, New York, Richmond and Tyson's Corner offices. With the addition of the team, the firm will be better able to serve the needs of clients on both coasts.

Prior to joining Troutman Sanders, all four attorneys worked for Jeffer Mangels Butler & Marmaro LLP (JMBM) in Orange County.

Taylor, 46, focuses his practice on representing financial institutions, borrowers, principals, guarantors and other parties in all aspects of financing, including new financings, modifications, out-of-court workouts, restructures, bankruptcies, liquidations, foreclosures and the enforcement of (or as applicable, the defense against) pre-judgment and post-judgment rights and remedies with respect to a wide variety of secured and unsecured financial obligations.

Taylor has substantial bankruptcy experience, as his practice focus in the 1990s was bankruptcy and his focus during the real estate boom of the late 1990s through 2007 was structuring, negotiating and documenting sophisticated finance transactions related to the real estate industry. This experience has given Taylor the required legal knowledge of the relevant federal and state laws related to the rights, remedies and defenses in connection with debt enforcement; the practical experience and understanding of how bankruptcies, restructures, workouts and debt enforcement work and may be used to produce a desired outcome; and the in-depth knowledge and understanding of both the technical aspects and practical applications of complex real estate financing transactions and restructures.

Taylor is a member of the California State Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, Financial Lawyers, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Orange County Bar Association in both the Real Estate and Commercial Law sections, and the California and Orange County Bankruptcy Forums. Taylor earned a B.A. in 1987 from California State University and a J.D. with great distinction in 1990 from McGeorge School of Law, where he was Order of the Coif.

Chambers, 43, focuses his practice on the representation of financial institutions and borrowers in all aspects of litigation involving secured and unsecured debt, including bankruptcy, receiverships, pre- and post-judgment remedies, foreclosures, guaranty actions and lender liability.

He regularly litigates in bankruptcy courts and state courts throughout California and frequently uses mediation to achieve efficient and economical results for his clients.

Chambers is active in numerous professional associations and is a frequent speaker on commercial real estate issues, unlawful detainer and landlord-tenant matters. He also participates in numerous pro bono activities and devotes time to several non-profit organizations, including Anaheim-based Community SeniorServ Inc., an organization providing meals and other services to senior citizens in Orange County.

Chambers is a member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Bar Association, Orange County Chapter,

the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Forum, the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum, the Turnaround Management Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Financial Lawyers Conference and the American Business Trial Lawyers.

He earned a B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, in 1988 from the University of Iowa and a J.D., magna cum laude, in 1991 from Southwestern University School of Law.

Irrgang Bojorquez, 38, has represented financial institutions and developers on complex real estate-based loan transactions involving resorts, residential development projects, master planned communities, condominium conversions and industrial buildings. She is experienced in counseling agents and lenders in syndicated and participated loan transactions.

Her current practice focuses on advising banks and developers on loan workouts and restructures, note purchases and sales, and REO sales.

Irrgang Bojorquez is a member of the Orange County Bar Association, is the Sponsorship Chairperson of the Orange County chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW), and serves on the Board of Human Options, a non-profit organization providing shelter and counseling to victims of domestic violence. She is licensed to practice law in California, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

She earned a B.A., magna cum laude, in 1994 from James Madison University and a J.D., cum laude, in 1997 from Villanova University School of Law.

Sherrill, 26, earned a B.A., magna cum laude, in 2004 from University of California, Los Angeles, and a J.D. in 2008 from University of California, Los Angeles.
