Seriously funny: Atlanta partner Mark Elliott on Atlanta real estate
July 21, 2010
Office and Industrial Properties practice group leader and Atlanta partner Mark Elliott offers up his professional, straight-shooting and often hilarious insights on Atlanta real estate deals, or lack thereof, as a recurring columnist for the
Atlanta Business Chronicle’s series: “
RealTalk: Atlanta’s Experts in Real Estate.”
In his July 6 “Deals Are in the Air” column, Elliott speculates about new real estate development in Atlanta:
“There is a distinct feeling of deals in the air right now, and not just deals for the crud that maybe never should have been built and no one would really want, except for the purposes of creating tax losses to shelter gains from somewhere else. I do not know if anything will be inked and announced or not before the real estate community takes its annual two week hiatus in August (where the heck does everybody go for two weeks, and why won't anyone invite me to the party?), but everyone is busily trying to work out the details on high quality assets, to finally get some of those assets moved. Yay, Atlanta-it is about time, and your real estate brokerage and legal community will thank you. … It is nice to see something in my e-mail in-box other than ads for Timex watches and prescription drugs.”
In his July 21 “Next Tower Goes Up Where?” column, Elliott comments on the Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta’s land use and long-term trends:
“As we sit over cocktails and speculate where and when the next Atlanta office tower will get announced (please don't panic; delivery would still be two to three years away), it is pretty easy to see Buckhead capturing that honor; it is grabbing more than its share of important service companies and headquarters deals these days, and the five new buildings that delivered these in the last two to three years are filling up quite nicely now. That becomes an even more likely scenario if the Streets of Buckhead parking deck becomes more than a parking deck, which my colleagues on this blog assure me is underway.”
