Rob is an associate in the Intellectual Property Practice Group at Troutman Sanders LLP. He focuses his practice on patent prosecution and litigation as well as providing advice about disputes involving the protection of enforcement of rights in patents, trademarks, copyrights, confidential information and trade secrets, technology, covenants not to compete, and other intellectual property.

Robert has experience in the mechanical and aerospace sciences with an emphasis in the fields of automotive, mechanical, aeronautical, and weapons technologies. He also has experience in the field of trademark, trade dress, and copyright, with emphasis on trade dress.

Areas of Practice
Technology Law:
Works with large and small companies, including start-ups, to protect intellectual property, develop licensing and IP strategies, and provide consultation on intellectual property issues regarding merger and acquisition deals.

Patents:
Prosecutes foreign and domestic utility and design patent applications for inventions in the weapons, aerospace, automotive, sporting goods, construction, telecommunication, electronics, and computer hardware/software.

Patent Litigation:
Litigates and provides advice concerning disputes in federal trial and appellate courts involving patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and other intellectual property and technology related claims.

Trademarks:
Prosecutes U.S. trademark applications.

Licensing:
Prepares and negotiates licensing agreements for patents, trademarks, and general technology.

Opinions:
Prepares non-infringement opinions in the areas of weapons, sporting goods, construction, household goods, telecommunication, electronics, and computer hardware/software. Performs product evaluations for infringement of patents by clients’ competitors.

Transactional:
Reviews and provides due diligence for contracts and agreements, including product development agreements, confidentiality and non-compete agreements, and corporate intellectual property policies. Rob also regularly consults on large corporate deals, including mergers and acquisitions, involving technology companies and intellectual property rights issues

Representative Experience
Obtained protection for over 50 patents, design patents, trademarks, and trade dress for a wide variety of clients

Successfully argued before the BPAI to overturn all Examiner rejections

Successfully prosecuted key patent asset to allowance in less than 12 months using USPTO Accelerated Examination
