Real talk: an Atlanta partner’s success
January 18, 2012
Atlanta partner Mark Elliot had his latest “Real Talk” column, “The five things Atlanta needs for a recovery,” appear in the January 18, 2012, Atlanta Business Chronicle. In contributing more than 25 columns to the paper, the firm was curious as to how Elliot got involved in the project and what the secret of his success was.
On how the column began: The editor of the Atlanta Business Chronicle “was looking for some way to become the go-to resource for interesting, informative and thought-provoking real estate news that went beyond simple fact-reporting,” Elliot said. “He wanted something that would create a buzz, that went longer than when the person stopped reading the piece.”
On the column’s success: “What I am told by the people who respond to my material is that it is very entertaining, and different … I chose not to go with the conventional ‘your friend, the accelerated depreciation tenant improvement’ or ‘Meth labs are bad for business,’ and tried to look at things in a new or different way,” he said. “I also try and throw out ideas and lists that are interesting; such as my personal favorite and the one that got the best reception, ‘
Great Atlanta Corners.’”
