Fitzgerald Veira is a partner in the firm’s Environmental and Natural Resources Practice Group. He currently represents local, national and international clients on a broad range of environmental and nuclear regulatory matters, transactions and in litigation. He is experienced in counseling clients regarding issues arising under the Clean Water Act (CWA), the Clean Air Act (CAA), the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and similar state laws and regulatory schemes. He has defended clients in many enforcement and private actions brought under state and federal environmental laws. Another significant component of Fitzgerald’s practice is defending NRC-licensed operators in the context of NRC investigations.

Counsel to an international drinking water and wastewater treatment company regarding bids to operate, maintain and manage water and wastewater systems owned by governmental entities.
Counsel to several Georgia counties and municipalities regarding a variety of environmental issues including environmental justice and issues arising under the Georgia Hazardous Site Response Act (HSRA).
Counsel to electric utilities regarding new source review issues under the Clean Air Act.
Counsel to electric utility on solid waste law relating to regulation of fuels by-products.
Counsel to an international energy company regarding environmental issues in corporate transactions.
Defended poultry company in citizen suit alleging RCRA and CWA violations.
Defended utility in citizen suit alleging CWA violations.
Defended wastewater treatment utility in connection with Department of Justice enforcement action alleging NPDES permit violations.
Counseled a tire manufacturer named as a potentially responsible party in connection with a superfund site.
Assisted in the representation of a major railroad in connection with one of the largest railroad mergers in history. Responsibilities included commenting on environmental issues before the surface transportation board and drafting motions in connection with NEPA litigation.
