Column details Troutman Sanders’ expertise, experience in China

Shanghai managing partner Edward Epstein’s tour of America with his “China’s Changing Business Environment” seminars caught the attention of
Atlanta Journal-Constitution business columnist Henry Unger, who penned an April 27 column titled
“How to be successful in China.”
The column, which quoted Epstein and Bob Webb extensively, states the “two lawyers who’ve created a thriving practice there have some free legal advice for business execs on the fence about investing: Don’t make a short-sighted and costly mistake by over-reacting to the controversies of the day.”
Unger’s column, which was also carried on his daily website blog, examined Troutman Sanders success in China and how that message of “patience” mirrors the advice Epstein gives his clients and at his seminars.
“China can be very seductive on the surface,” said Epstein. “There’s no substitute for going out to the countryside.”
Epstein, who also held seminars in Raleigh, Richmond, New York, Virginia Beach and Washington, D.C., got additional press in D.C. The April 5 Washington Post column “Face Time” listed Epstein’s event among other select events happening the first week of April. The seminars focused on the latest business developments in China, including mergers and acquisitions, foreign direct investment and compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and Chinese anti-bribery laws.
