Your Work Matters
Paralegals at Troutman Sanders are hired to work in a specific practice group and play an important role in providing efficient, cost-effective legal services to the firm's clients. As part of a legal team, our paralegals have the opportunity to work closely with our attorneys handling sophisticated, challenging and exciting legal work for clients that are often the subject of television news and newspaper headlines.
As a guideline for the level of responsibility and type of work our paralegals routinely handle, the firm has adopted the ABA definition for paralegal, as modified:
A paralegal is a person, qualified by education, training or work experience who is employed or retained by a lawyer, law office, corporation, governmental agency or other entity and who performs specifically delegated substantive* legal work for which a lawyer is responsible.
*substantive is further defined by Troutman Sanders LLP as: work which, for the most part, requires a sufficient knowledge of legal concepts that, absent such assistance, the attorney would perform.
