Atlanta attorney's Supreme Court win highlighted in Daily Report

The U.S. Supreme Court in late April rejected an Atlanta federal court judge’s awarding of a $4.5 million bonus to lawyers who sued the state of Georgia. The decision marked a significant victory for Atlanta partner Mark Cohen, who argued the case before the Supreme Court months earlier.
“It’s good news for taxpayers of Georgia, particularly given the financial concerns the state is facing right now,” Cohen told the Daily Report in its April 22 article. “(The court’s) decisions have consistently…continued to narrow when these enhancements could be allowed.”
Cohen acknowledged, according to the paper, that the high court didn’t completely disallow fee enhancements, but said “there’s not much room left” under the standards of proof the court set. “They left the door ajar, a very small crack,” Cohen said.
